SynopsisTo help support her family, Irene becomes Mrs. Parker’s maid. She feels disrespected by the Parkers, and even milkman Tom thinks she’s fair game for his lechery. Irene falls for Reed, the boyfriend of Laura, the daughter of her employer, but Laura says Reed told her he was just trifling with a servant’s affections. Irene quits and goes home to the farm. Reed shows up and says Laura lied: he really loves Irene.

Edith’s brother Tod tells her “no guy likes his girl to be a female Tarzan” and advises her to pretend to be “soft and feminine and helpless.” Edith tries, but when Bill is injured trying to rescue a drowning boy, Edith dives in and saves them both. Bill tells her that he prefers “someone who’s a real person and not just a pretty doll in a bathing suit,” and they kiss.
