Most of these had Russ Manning art, with maybe Alex Toth helping on one story. A long time since i read these... |

I agree with lonespaceranger, this was an excellent series. Not only Russ Manning, but a couple of fill-in issues by Dan Spiegle, who couldn't be beat when it came to ships, boats, and the sea. Good scripts, too. |

Sea Hunt was one of my favorite TV shows when I was a kid. Unfortunately it came on after the late news on Sunday nights in my area. Way too late for me to stay up on a school night. So the only time I was allowed to watch the show was during summer vacation. This issue of the comic was the the first I owned and the one I remember most. The story of a film crew working under water and Mike Nelson being the stunt double was exciting. I still remembered the cut air hose and the “accidentally“ shot spear at Mike, even after over 50 years. The artwork and story are excellent, as are the clear scans of the comic pages. It is great to be able to read this comic again after all these years. |

Bazarroman, I too was a big fan of the Sea Hunt TV series. Where I lived it came on in the late afternoon, between school and dinner. It was all very exciting and made a Lloyd Bridges fan of me. I can still hear the opening theme in my head. |

In in NJ, Comcast carries MEtv which shows Seahunt, and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. |

In the 1960s, we were certainly spending a lot of time underwater in our imaginations (apart from superheroes like Aquaman and Prince Namor) with TV comics SEA HUNT and VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA, as well as DC's SEA DEVILS and Dell's originals THE FROGMEN and VOYAGE TO THE DEEP (another Sam Glanzman production). And if you want to include war comics, Charlton's SUBMARINE ATTACK. I seem to recall action figures that were the undersea equivalent of Mattel's Major Matt Mason and friends, but they were very short-lived and now I can't even recall the name of them. Space toys of the '60s are well-documented these days but these aquanaut toys seem to have fallen through the cracks of memory. |
