Hello ! I've read this comic book with great pleasure and interest about the Communist world. I lived in such a country until I was 13 where this kind of regime ruled the country for 45 years from 1945 until 1989 with all these oppressive methods described in your comic book. I have also some Communist comic books and magazines and I wish to share them with you. Maybe we will collaborate and to add a new language to the Non-English section of this site, Romanian. I think that Communist comics are missing from this great site and I'd like to add some from my own archive. As you say, the people can watch the art even if they can't understand the dialogues excepting those who speak Romanian language.

This certainly has echoes in the modern USA. All these old comics assumed the threat would come from the left (communism). We're seeing that the same techniques work from the right (fascism) as well.

What still blows my mind about this book is the fact that Charles M. Schulz of Peanuts fame drew part of it!

There are actually 5 versions. 1. Black circle 10c price, 2. Red Circle 10c price. 3 no price/no circle, 4, yellow circle no price, and yellow circle 10c price. I think the guide messed this up because it says 3 editions but lists 5, I think they meant 3 different priced versions. Though there should be a double listing for this book because priced books are not considered promotional and it's only under the promo section of the guide. The normal comic section should post 3 10cent versions and the promo section should list the 2 non-priced, with references to each other. I believe the black circle is the first printing because you find it beat up. The yellow circle/no price seems pretty common. A total of 4 MILLION printed.

Copyright registration number AA68361. Three thousand (3,000) advance copies were sent to the leading clergy and lay readers in August 1947. The book was revised based on the comments received. Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune, page 30 (Aug 24, 1947). Roman Baltes served as art director. In 1987 he wrote that he had hired Charles Schulz.

Charles M. Schulz pencil, inks, and lettering credits come from Schulz himself in an interview with Shel Dorf, in Comics Interview (Comics Interview Group, 1983 series) #47 [1987], page 15 and in Schulz and Peanuts: A Biography by David Michaelis (Harper, 2007 series), pages 161 and 167, as reported by Jean Paul on the Comics History Exchange page on Facebook, August 13, 2015.

The artwork for this issue was done by several artists and Schulz's work is hard to determine. Michaelis states that Schulz drew the climactic panels for the story.
