Ella tells Ruth that she has discovered Jeff is “a man among men” and if he ever stops loving Ruth, she’ll be happy to take him. Ruth and Jeff reconcile and are married. |

David sees them and Cora says “I only wanted...a little excitement! Forgive me for being young!” Cora realizes she loves David but he’s badly injured in a possibly-deliberate car crash and “will never walk again!” Cora’s “penance” will be to care for David for the rest of her life. |
