SynopsisSue wins the “Miss America” contest. Dan shows up with a contract she’d signed earlier, making him her manager. As part of the contract, Sue can’t acknowledge her fiancé Bob for a year. Sue discovers being a reigning beauty queen is “hard, heartbreaking work.” Dan romances her to keep her in line, but later tells Sue “You were only a meal ticket to me, baby!” Bob and Sue reconcile.
ContentGenre: Romance | Characters: Sue Ryan; Bob Blake; Dan Corbin
NotesThe "Miss America" pageant and title are specifically named in this story. However, Dan's contract allows him to promote Sue as "Miss Cotton," probably to avoid depicting the "Miss America" organization in a bad light. Although Bob calls himself "Bob Blake" on page 2 of the story, Sue introduces him as "Bob Martin" on page 3. Bottom 1/3 of final page is Statement of Ownership.
