Synopsis | Jessica refuses to marry Stan because she believes she’ll have a singing career like her late, great father, although she has “none of [her] father’s great talent.” When Stan suggests she change her last name to see if she can get bookings, Jessica learns that she can't get any bookings and agrees to wed Stan. But when she accepts an offer for a concert tour Stan breaks up with her. The tour ends and Jessica learns she was only hired to exploit her father’s fame. She winds up as a singing waitress until Stan returns and says he still loves her. |

Helen tricks political boss Manell into offering George work, over George’s objections. She then convinces Manell to put up George for state senator, guaranteeing George will “take suggestions” from the boss. But after George is elected, Manell demands he withdraw a slum clearance bill. George refuses and breaks up with Helen. She records Manell confessing and George takes her back. |

Synopsis | 24-year-old Laura teaches high school and is treated “like one of the gang” by her students, especially the boys. Dan, the older brother of Jerry, one of the students, says Laura should socialize with people her age. Her lack of “dignity” also threatens her job. Dan and Laura fall in love. When Jerry is caught embracing Laura in school, he’s suspended but shows up at the prom and makes a scene. Dan accuses Laura of leading his brother on. Jerry flees and is hurt in a car wreck. Laura confesses to the principal: Jerry is reinstated and Laura is fired. Dan and Laura reconcile. |
