That one Al Williamson story, "Buster Crabbe and the Maid of Mars" might be the single greatest thing ever to come out of Eastern Color Printing, right up there with his EC stuff. Oh, and that Frazetta cover! Too bad ECP only did 2 Buster Crabbe space adventure stories, in this issue and #9. The second volume of BUSTER CRABBE by Lev Gleason was better because it had a BC sci-fi story in *every* issue (and Alex Toth, too).

Per my Overstreets, Al Williamson has said that, besides Krenkel and Frazetta, Joe Orlando worked a bit on this too. Indeed, I detect what could be Orlando's hand in certain panels. Notably, page 8 of the comic (4th panel on page 6 of the story), and page 13 of the comic (1st panel, last page of the story).

Superb comic, although the main character looks and acts more like William Shatner than Buster Crabbe. Especially the fighting style. Very strange.

NotesWilliamson once explained that he called Krenkel in to draw background architecture, though it's possible he also had a hand in inking some of this story. Certainly Frazetta inked many of the figures.

NotesTentative art ID based on "Fantastic Comics" 2 (and others)--the logo for "Yank Wilson, Superspy Q-4" uses the same style of lettering as this story's logo, and the sharp-edged character faces are typical of Farr's artwork.
