| This classic issue was reprinted in its entirety in 1981, so even though your chances of laying hands on an original like the one this was scanned from are slim, you still might be able to get a copy to enjoy sans the need for electronics. Also, in the early 1970s Marvel did a comic adaption of Black Destroyer in Worlds Unknown #5 that is worth checking out. |

| What's more interesting is why they reprinted this in HC in the 80's. While it's not universally agreed, this is the issue most cited as the beginning of the Golden Age of Science Fiction. Black Destroyer is the first Van Vogt story; Trends is Asimov's second story, and first in Astounding. The very next month has Heinlein's first published story, and the month after that has Sturgeon's first.
I'll stick with my copy of the original, but I highly encourage everybody else to give this scan a look... this issue through late 1942 are arguably the best, and most important, run of any science fiction magazine. |
