SynopsisShirley meets piano salesman Ben at an amateur drama club. They fall in love, but she is used to a higher standard of living than he can provide. This is curious, because Shirley’s father is just an office supplies salesman. Shirley learns her parents have been living beyond their means, borrowing money (even from Ben) to “keep up appearances.” She leaves home and gets a job as a sales clerk and refuses to see Ben until she can repay him. Ben tracks Shirley down and says they’ll be married and live sensibly on his salary.

SynopsisOn an impulse, Kay tries to steal a dress from a store but is caught. Stranger Phil pretends to be her husband and convinces the store Kay is innocent. Kay thanks Phil but intends to find a rich husband so they part. However, she later discovers she likes him and they go on a date. Nightclub owner Vic saves them from a mugging and she goes out with him. It turns out Vic is a cruel gangster and set up the mugging to meet her. Phil rescues Kay and they decide to get married.
