"Freckles" Marvel guest-starring W.C. Fields as Uncle Dudley.

Godfrey Daniels! Talk about jumping the shark!
   By
A couple of comments. (a) in the Commando Yank story on the last page, Yank punches the Japanese villain, who falls out of a window to his death, but then Yank says "Can you beat that! He jumped rather than face defeat!" NO HE DIDN'T "jump"--you knocked him out the window!! (b) It's curious that the Mary Marvel, Mr. Scarlet & Phantom Eagle stories don't have splash panels, only the Commando Yank story. This is an odd look for a comic in this period.

I checked the Commando Yank story, dwittt. I noticed that Yank's balloon in panel 4 has been re-lettered by a different hand while there is a big empty space at the bottom of the balloon in panel 3. I'll bet that in panel 3 Yank originally said something like, "As for you, Bat-Master, take this!" Then in panel 4 he said something along the lines of "You deserved that." At the last moment the editor must have decided this made Yank seem cold-blooded, and changed the dialogue. It's a Code change before there was a Comics Code!
