Even given the mainstream appeal of the Klan during the 20s (four million members at its peak), building a humor strip around the notion of a personal KKK to handle things like keeping Mama at the movies seems remarkably tone-deaf.

There was no such thing as "tone deaf" a hundred years ago. If you were offended by something, nobody cared. If you raised a stink about it they would just kill you.

Holy mascarpone, that's a stunner. And some members think British strips such as Spadger's Isle and The Cheery Chinks are out of order. Mind you, we did have Mosely and his blackshirts marching in the streets in the '30's with some of the ruling class and royalty siding with his poisonous policies.
The worst thing about this strip is that such an obnoxious organisation is portrayed as funny, cartoony entertainment.

This is from the New York Evening Post.
This is the kind of thing Fred Trump was reading when he was arrested at a Klan rally.

Some works of history ought to be forgotten rather than carried on and used to glorify a VILE organization. Disgusting.

I disagree, warmfuzzy, this item is a signpost that shows us where many people were , how far we’ve come away from it, and hopefully where we need to be headed.
We learn from mistakes. I don’t think it’s helpful to hide them under the rug.

If you build it, they will come. As long as this kind of material is available, there will be folks on _both_ sides who perceive it as glorification rather than mere acknowledgment. Is preserving history worth giving the racists something to take them to their "happy place" late at night when they're alone in their basement beds with a box of tissues?
