| Great scan, however, my copy seems to be missing page 23? |

| That ad in back for the "Bookomic Club" and their "Masterpieces Illustrated" comics is intriguing because I've never heard of it or seen it listed anywhere. Does anyone know if it had ever been published? |

| "Bookomics" sounds almost like 1946 crowdfunding. "We must have enough members...to make possible this kind of production." Since you send no money I presume the sample came with a solicitation to buy a subscription. My guess is that this trial balloon didn't fly and the project never went forward. It's possible though that the sample booklet (probably a few random pages) DID get printed. Now that would be interesting artifact! Note that the copyright is held by pioneer comics packager Lloyd Jacquet, founder of the famous Funnies, Inc. shop. Maybe he thought of this might be a way to recycling existing pages and/or bring more work into the shop. Very interesting. |

| It was pretty common for the earliest comic anthology titles to include among its features a story adapted from classic literature. NEW FUN/MORE FUN carried an adaptation of Treasure Island (pictured on the cover of the mockup "Masterpieces Illustrated") in 1935-36-dated issues, and DOC SAVAGE COMICS carried another adaptation of the same story in 1940-41. Undoubtedly Lloyd Jaquet's shop had worked on a number of features of that type placed in those early anthologies, so the theory that he may have recycled some of those old features for "Masterpieces Illustrated" (MASTERPIECES clearly being superior to mere CLASSICS) might hold some truth.
