Thank you, Lyons, for the great upload of one of the fine illustrators of Charles Dickens' novels and stories. Cruikshank certainly did "get around". On his deathbed he exclaimed that he hoped his children would be taken care of. Upon hearing this, his missus was a bit perplexed, to say the least, as their marriage had been childless. She soon learned that their ex-maid, who George really liked, was living nearby with the eleven children that the artist had fathered - the last when he was 82 years old! Mrs Cruikshank, evidently being a 'good egg', took the family under her wing and made sure that they were all provided for. Ah, those Victorians!
