The illustration of the cat MARiA on page 15 is genius.Jack Kirby with a Cat! If you've never seen a cat do that you wouldn't believe it's possible, but I can assure you it is.

2 comments. First, "Carlo" looks remarkably like "Napoleon," a dog featured in a newspaper comic beginning in 1932 by Clifford McBride. The Dell Four Color here (/?dlid=38447) has art by Roger Armstrong, but you can still see the resemblance (lots of McBride strips can be found in Famous Funnies).
Second, poor Carlo takes an awful lot of physical abuse in this story. Sure, he gets into a lot of mischief, but humans treat this dog very badly.
