William Lackey started his career painting murals for the WPA. After WWII he and his wife joy started a commercial art studio. Among their products were comic books, art for Roy Rogers merchandise, and the original Hamm's bears. Lackey was the lead artist for the Catholic Digest-Catechetical Guild-David C Cook companies. He also illustrated scholarly books and drew cartoons for Playboy. Here is a detailed bio: http://wpamurals.org/lackey.htm
