I've always enjoyed the artwork of George McManus and Co. I like the clean line and the look of the supporting characters, not to mention the beautiful deco-meets-nouveau backgrounds. Even so I can't believe the strip ran for 87 years, retelling the same joke over and over.

Note - to emphasize the characteristics, the artist has Jiggs always dressed the same way, but Maggie is never dressed the same way twice. I think in this first story alone she has at least 8 changes of clothes. Of course, This probably gave McManus more scope for his creative design flair. Also, the first story, for example looks like a number of Sunday pages joined together. Works well. Also, for a few more laughts, look at the small paintings on the walls. Serendipity! The more modern equivalent would be the British TV show, 'Keeping up Appearances.' - my Dad's favorite show - no, my mum wasn't a hyacinch or a maggie, his morther, my grandmother, was!
