NotesTHE CLOAK TELLS TALES OF MYSTERY 7 is an horror/suspense anthology comic published by Horwitz Publications in April 1956 (estimated). This issue contained three stories, two by Royce Bradford and the third (not included here, under site rules) a reprint from a Marvel anthology title. This title is a rare example of an Australian golden age horror title - Australia did not have a Fredric Wertham equivalent, but the potential impact of similar impacts on comics publishing made horror more challenging. (There were some limited attempts to whip up a scare campaign by Australian media and politicians, but the local comics lacked the more extreme that made some American comics easy targets.) Well, at least until Gredown Comics in the mid-70s (and therefore outside the scope of this site)

Royce Bradford was a cartoonist and publisher. He studied life painting and began working as a commercial artist. He became involved in comics very early in the expanding comics industry, often using the penname 'Brad'. He moved between publisher frequently and retained work outside of comics, eventually setting up Bradford Displays, which published some comics among its other products. The majority of these comics were targeted at young children in the 'Tiny Tots Tales' series. As an artist, he sculpted in clay and also painted portraits in oils.
