I would sure like to know who the artist is. The same person seems to have drawn all the stories in the book. His layouts and especially his backgrounds are heavily influenced by Milton Caniff's early "Terry and the Pirates." Some panels are outright swipes (including a Raymond or two for variety) but most of the drawings look original. The figures very good overall, though now and then a close-up face goes entirely awry, almost as if a different artist drew it.

The stories are from Popular Comics 51, 52, 53, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 60. Some of the records at the GCD credit Erwin Hess with the artwork.

Thanks, Scrounge. I checked the art against some Hess credited BLB's and it looks like the same guy.

Turns out some of the original stories were signed by Erwin L. Hess, but the sigs were erased for this reprint. Funny dat.
