Good Stuff!

Thanks Mark, for uploading this rare Golden Age Canadian funny animal comic book. I've been looking to get the complete book for many, many years. It represents Ben Sangor's attempt to distribute his animation studio's funny animal production (Giggle, Ha Ha, Merry-Go-Round comics) into Canada. His son-In-Law, Ned Pines, thought better of that, and didn't even risk distributing HIS Sangor Studio funny animal production(CooCoo, Barnyard, Goofy, Happy, SuperMouse Comics) through his Canadian Better Comics Distributors, distributing only his Superhero and Adventure Comics from his Better, Nedor, and Standard lines. But, the 2 books in this Canadian Title represent some of the best quality funny animal artwork that was published in Canada during The Golden Age of Comics.

Indeed, GCD is an invaluable resource, which makes the yawning pit of darkness left by omissions all the more (insert profanity of your choice here)-ing frustrating. At least with the mash-up of soon-to-be ACG titles' content in this book, MOST creator's credits are available, and there doesn't SEEM to be any other gems like Jim Tyer art. Good luck in your search for other attributable credits.

While this series was active, Ben Sangor owned half of Nedor and Standard Comics. So he was "buying" from himself. All these stories were drawn by moonlighting animators, working for Sangor's studios in New York and Los Angeles. The stories, themselves were stock used to fill out his own ACG line of comic books, "Giggle", "Ha Ha", "Hi-Jinx", and "Merry-Go-Round" Comics, as well as to fill out Sangor's son-in-law's own Better, Nedor, and Standard lines (all of which were co-owned partnerships between Sangor and Ned Pines): "Coo Coo", "Funny Funnies", "Real Funnies", "Goofy", "Happy", "Barnyard", "Supermouse", and "Spunky" Comics.

This Merry-Go-Round Comics, Canadian series was owned by Ben Sangor and his Canadian distributor, which for Issue #1 was Rotary Litho, Ltd., and for Issue #2, was co-owned Sangor's son-in-law, Ned Pines (Better Publishing, Ltd.) and that line's Canadian distributor. After Merry-Go-Round 1 sales were disappointing, Sangor switched to his son-in-law's own Canadian distributor, Better Publicationds of Canada, Ltd., as they were selling decent numbers of Pines' non-Funny Animal series. Pines had not been trying to sell his own Nedor and Standard funny animal lines in Canada. I will try to list as many of the artists of these 2 issues as I can, as comments on each of the 2 books' starting page. I can detect the artists for some of the stories by sight, and several of the others were also re-printed in later Giggle and Ha Ha books, and have the artists listed by GCD. There might be a few left with no documentation that I won't be able to identify.
