It was fun rereading this one. It's a good mix of action and comedy, though the bit of addressing the reader gets on my nerves. Once again I'm struck by the way Kirby's drawing style changed over the years. In the late 40s all his dynamism as well as his basic character design was present, but his figures and faces were so tall and skinny that sometimes (e.g. the splash page of the first story) it looked almost as if the art had been squeezed horizontally. In his superstar years his characters were famously big and bulky. Somewhere in the early FF days he must have re-evaluated his approach to heroic figures.

the tall and skinny characters are probably due to the Joe Simon influence in the layouts; Simon was the tall and skinny member of the artistic partnership himself, and he drew his primary characters that way. But it also has to do with aging - Kirby drew from the gut, and as he got stockier so did his characters.
