The radios advertised were released between 1956 and late 1957. I propose a 1957 date for the comic rather than 1950.

As an Aside, I once owned an old Valve Radio.
The range and the sound quality were amazing, but crucially, not portable.

Way back so I barely remember it, some family friends had a portable tube (valve) radio. It was big and heavy but sounded great. As great as AM radio could sound, anyway. Hardly anyone had FM then. They opened the battery compartment so I could see an enormous square battery like the ones that used to power electric lanterns. I wonder how long that battery lasted.
