Station WENR, based in Chicago, had an interesting history. It was founded in 1924 by E. N. Rauland, maker of All-American brand radios. For much of its life it shared bandwith with WLS, another pioneering radio station established by Sears Roebuck. After a series of frequency changes and acquisitions WENR ended up in the American Broadcasting Network (formerly NBC's Blue Network). It merged with WLS is 1954 and went out of existence. Among other notable items WENR was the first home of Paul Harvey's famous "news" program.
