Welcome to our aviation category, where comic book heroes really fly with the birds.
We have a real groundbreaker in Hillman's Airboy. Created by writers Charles Biro and Dick Wood
and artist Al Camy. Read his 1942 debut in Air Fighters Comics #2.
Airboy, real name Davy Nelson II, and his plane created by a Franciscan monk Brother Francis Martier
soon had their own title. Which ran for 89 issues until May 1953, and the demise of
Hillman.
Even more successful aviators were Blackhawk and his squadron. They first appeared in
Quality's Military Comics #1 and were ever present. The Blackhawk title lasted 99 issues
until the closure of Quality. But even that did not stop the run as it
was integrated with the DC Universe and published continuously until #243 in November 1968.
Other titles of note are Captain Aero who used his propeller as a saw and
Captain Steve Savage flying missions during the Korean War.
We have 57 titles and 1,307 issues in our 'Aviation Category' for you to enjoy.
