This issue is particularly infamous for Harvey choosing to self-censor the conclusion to "Punch & Rudy" -- editing the final panel into two, inserting a field of white, and turning it from a fairly average gory twist into a baffling non-sequitur. (A reprint in the 90's featuring the original art confirms the context clues in the staging and in Punchy's dialogue; that was indeed supposed to be Rudy's head he was battering around like a tetherball.) Why they chose to undercut the story like this of their own accord is unclear, but I think a likely reason for their squeamishness was the Juvenile Delinquency hearings a couple of months prior, where Johnny Craig's Crime SuspenStories cover for EC provoked condemnation and debate over which kinds of severed heads were "tasteful" in the comics medium.

NotesParody intended for Flip #3. Howard Nostrand reports in Squa Tront #13 (2012) that this story was written by Nat Barnett. Previous indexer wrote that this is a parody of the movie "Shane" but it is actually a parody of "Come Back, Little Sheba," a 1952 film based on a 1950 play.
