Comic StoryThe Hanging Tree / The Heap (8 pages)
SynopsisIn the Middle Ages a certain tree became noted as a place where evil dwelt, a tree that held a large amount of gold that had been hidden inside by individuals, unknowing of the wealth already inside it. In 1930, with The Heap looking on, a young boy named Paul, with his dying mother, hid gold coins in the tree. Her last request was to a passing peasant man to care for the boy. But that peasant was evil......he believed the tree magical because he could put gold into it and draw out twice the value later. He cheated Paul of his inheritance, but the Heap dispensed justice to him at that tree.
