Jenny refuses to discuss her past and suspects Dick is just using her for a big story. When she learns her mother has died, Jenny confesses to Dick: she dated gangster Howie Garth and was with him when he was arrested. She fled to avoid scandal. Jenny asks Dick to print the story to prove she’s a decent person.

SynopsisRod adores Claire but she only tolerates him. She borrows his car and strikes a pedestrian, then asks Rod to take the rap: he is sent to prison for a year. Claire falls in love with Kent, and hides this from Rod when he is released. Claire tricks Rod in driving without a license and causing an accident, then urges him to flee rather than be sent back to prison for a parole violation. Kent overhears and breaks up with Claire. The judge tells Claire “your conscience will exact its own punishment” and warns Rod “next time see that the person you give your love to is worthy of it!”
