Lot of fun in this one, and consistently strong art. The Yarko story is my favorite; there is some real occult atmosphere (the talking dog, the captured men rising eerily from the water), and even Doctor Strange never took on Death and the Devil at the same time. Then there's The Flame, can appear out of a match flame, has his own Flameboat, and bows graciously after the rescued girl kisses him gratefully; pretty cool. Shorty Shortcake is genuinely bizarre; Patty O'Day is a plucky B-movie-style heroine; and there's tons more, even a Western. What really is refreshing is how consistently good all the backup features are. |
