I have to disagree with the comment that this volume was 'before his art really hit its prime.'
These are dated in the 1930's and you can see that while the work is still excellent, he has formalized it and the wit is pretty flat. Look at the 1919 work in the first volume on this site see what he could do when he was really cooking. For a comic fan you can also appreciate that his work was very influential.
