Interesting Golden Age stuff here. There's your standard comic strip reprint, Texas Slim and Dirty Dalton, for them as likes that sort of thing. There's a ongoing feature, Corsair, by Charles M. Quinlan (I've seen that name before) which is a seafaring adventure series. A beautiful girl who turns out to be a presumed-dead pirate is found out when she disguises herself as a male(!) ghost, only to be pushed off the ship in a sword fight with the hero, her disguise being washed off in the water. She wonders aloud how the hero wasn't frightened of her ghostly alter-ego,and the hero replies, "Covering yourself with flour and taking advantage of sailor superstition was a good idea, except for one thing, I am not a sailor, I'm a farmer!". Lastly I'll mention George and the Dragon, a humorous story about - well, a guy named George and a dragon. My favorite part was when the dragon raises a ruckus in a diner, George's girlfriend tells him to go in and do something, and he says the best line in the book - "GO IN?!? I'm afraid to even LOOK in!!!" There ya go. |
