Random 12 always a great way to start the day – almost too much choice – but today was a no-brainer – The Spirit, yay!
Every story is a gem – in a league above anything else you will ever read in a comic book (unless it’s another Spirit comic book). In the first, reality and fantasy clash when a kid comes to the rescue on his trusty rusty steed. The second must be read in absolute silence – even the Spirit needs his rest. For the third, femme fatale P’Gell makes an appearance, with sweet innocent Saree and sweeter, innocenter Officer Klink, or should that be Klutz? The final story sees Spirit castaway on a desert isle with P’Gell – he seems in no hurry to leave but his naughty nemesis is keen to make off with diamonds and pearls – oh, and there’s a caveman, a volcano, a tidal wave – gee, I can’t be bothered to explain it all, you’re just gonna haveta read it!
On a scale of 1 to 10, you would have to give this 150!

Dear Andy, you need to read more comic books. The Spirit is the epitome of mediocrity. The stories are the biggest let down. You can't fault old uncle Billy for trying, because he was trying too hard, always too eager to seduce the reader, the thing is, the writing has almost completely lost its charm, it's just, sorry to say, ancient and not very entertaining. I like the art, but it's hardly cat's pyjamas, it's nothing to marvel at or inspirational. Frankly, all of Eisner & company Spirits arent worth one page from Winsor McCay's Nemo or Rarebit Fiend.
