I was going to rate this book a "6". Then I took another look. Then I was going to give it a "7". Then I took ANOTHER look. How about an "8", then? In the opening story, "Tara" (under a Alex Schomburg cover), my favorite character was, of course, Robin - so WHY DID YOU COVER HIS FACE UP ON THE COVER, YOC? That really wasn't cool. At least there was another copy underneath the first one. The story was okay, but it wasn't really complete, being a continuing storyline and all. Wonderman was pretty good, I liked his costume. Art was by "Oksner", am I to assume that would be Bob Oksner of Jerry Lewis/Bob Hope reknown? The Grim Reaper was interesting, with a villian named the Chameleon (I wonder if Stan Lee read this comic when he was looking for character names) and a kid named Caleb who looked kinda like Archie and said "Gorsh!" all the time JUST LIKE Goofy. A real hoot, was that one. Jill Trent Science Sleuth was the one I kept coming back to - when her country-boy artist friend was working on a painting and she didn't like it (to which he responded, "I can't paint worth a durn unless I'm riled up!"), I thought his painting was QUITE NICE - but I'm no art critic. Not much to say about Spectro, Master Of Magic, except that the line of the book was said here, by a cop - "We've been snafued!". Anyone who knows what "snafu" means has GOTTA wonder what it's doing in a KIDS' comic. Even the ads were nice, I especially thought the Forest Fire Lamp was eye-catching. The Learn Radio ad was very much a reflection of its time, and of course those American Seed ads were around FOREVER, I know they were sill around when I was a kid! Hmm, maybe I should have given this one a "9", at that -

Hey, YOC, sorry I complained about that face on the front of the book being covered up. I didn't realize that it was in BACK of the book, not the front!

Gene Fawcette is an example of yet another lesser-known, yet great comic artist of his time. His art of Tara is arguably as great as, if not, surpasses Alex Schomburg’s art of Tara for his covers.
