I went for Serrano’s El Duende from 1960 on Random 12 – lovely shot of Olga on the opening page.
We leap in half-way through a story with El Duende (The pixie? Dwarf? If so, a rather overgrown pixie) having fallen down a lift shaft after a daring robbery under the mind control of evil Chug Lang. Fooling the dozy local police with a simple conjuring trick (you can’t get the staff these days), El Duende makes his escape, intent on capturing Chug Lang and proving his innocence. The police set off in pursuit leading to a gripping cliff-hanger of a final frame!
Beautiful pencils, good pacing, a car chase and a cliff-hanger – I’ve read far worse!
