From Random 12, a slice of high school life from the best year of the twentieth century – 1960 (with 1961 a close second)
Freddy suffers from famephobia in the first story (It’s No Picnic) as the gang shoot in their hot rod to the lake for a summer swim. Will our hungry hero ever get his hot dog? By the second tale, poor broke Freddy is desperate to make some dough to take curvaceous Peggy to the dance – so enters into a scheme of horological arbitrage and up-trading that leaves him even less than broke in no time at all – what does bountiful blonde Peggy see in this guy?
Gorgeous Margie takes over for Real Bad Day and ends up in a fast fashion parade between the weather and her workwear whilst Freddy returns in the final story with a crossdressing Stuff to introduce beatnik bouffants to the girls in The Stuff Look – it’s the latest thing.
All in all, a consistently enjoyable, well-drawn presentation.
