What a great issue! Is the cut-out part of the cover a relic of stripping?
Anyway, this was as enjoyable as a solid programmer on Turner Classic Movies. Kirby and Simon are at some sort of peak. I especially liked the occasional glimpse of the original art. The double-page spread was another surprise.
The story drawn by Bill Draut was a treat as well, especially since I only know his art from DC horror titles of the 70s, where I immediately liked his work.
The goofball humor adventure by Jack Keeler (hope I'm not mangling his name from memory) is right on the edge of being bad art, but its monumental simplicity comes out as a net plus, and surprisingly short. |
