Nina bumps into George, a longtime suitor, and he warns her that the Whittakers are snobs. She says she can’t go back on her promise, but when Edward demands Nina write a letter to his mother apologizing for talking to George, Nina breaks up with him. She marries faithful George.

After he graduates, they both move to the big city but Bob never mentions marriage. He breaks up with Betsy because he thinks she’s cheating on him (she was just caring for a sick neighbor). Betsy intends to commit suicide but Bob returns just in time: the neighbors confirmed her story. He apologizes and proposes marriage.
