A young Leonard Starr drew (and signed) the first story here; you might know his later works such as 'Little Orphan Annie' or my favorite 'Mary Perkins' (aka 'On Stage').
PS This is far from his first - he started drawing (published works) much earlier than 1949, IIRC in the first half of that decade; and we have some of these here.
