W.M. Wood of Eastland, Texas placed Old Rip, a horned toad, in the cornerstone of the courthouse in 1897, and took it out alive in 1928. Old Rip lived without food or water for 31 years. The National Museum in Mexico City houses the bloodiest spot on Earth. There you'll see a carved circular stone about seven feet across. This sacrificial stone was used by the ancient Aztecs. Although the Aztecs were a comparatively mild and peaceful people who attained a high degree of civilization, they believed in human sacrifice.
