| Synopsis | Larry Miller, a music teacher friend of mine, called me in great excitement one day and said he'd been offered a rare antique piano. "Does it play", I asked. Larry said he didn't care. "It must be worth a fortune". Suspecting a swindle, I contacted the seller who said the piano had been brought to America soon after the colony of Jamestown was settled in 1608, and therefore a true American antique. I didn't even bother to examine the piano to tell my friend to forget it. I'll tell you how I knew a swindle was on tap. In the case of the sour note, the seller claimed the antique piano had been sent to the Jamestown colony around 1608, yet the first real piano was built a hundred years later. Now, our swindler's playing a different tune in jail. | ||||
