The night watchman at a department store has been discovered dead at the bottom of an elevator shaft. As the employees of Carnes department store start to clock in for the day, Mabel Darney is among the first to arrive. She rushes towards the elevator, but it appears to be taking a while to get there, leading Mabel to question why the lift isn't on the main floor. Grady, the night watchman, is found lifeless in the basement shaft!
