WAS HE DEATH PROOF? That's the story that caught my attention here, a ghost story with a sci-fi sort of solution, and did it make my brain hurt? Of COURSE it did, this is Superior Comics we're talkin' about (aboot?) here, and a prime example of late-1954-the-code-is-almost-upon-us slowing down the fear factor type comic it is, too. Still, the ghost seemed legit enough. Avoid the story with the green elf thingie, that one's got "train wreck" written all over it. I must say I loved the art, though, there's just something about that Iger Studio that I always liked no matter what publisher they did work for. I even liked the cheesy '50s coloring job on this one, too. It could have been worse. Way worse.

Actually STRANGE MYSTERIES 19 is a reprint of Superior's JOURNEY INTO FEAR 1 (the first of the three Superior titles) and it came out in '51. But in Canada, the Fulton Bill was passed on December 10 '49. So Superior's publisher William Zimmerman was defying the requirements of the Fulton Bill. Of course, Superior was also shipping to the U.S. They dropped their horror titles at the end of '54/beginning of '55, so maybe the Comics Code accomplished what the Fulton Bill couldn't do.
