The unpopular tax collector Sir Montichet (Ralph Michael) is killed, Mark (Bill Owen) an opportunist thief sees the murder, and is blamed for it, the villagers let him escape reasoning it was self-defence, Mark takes with him the name of the real killer written in blood on a parchment by the victim. Robin welcomes him into his band, but the victim was The Sheriff's brother and he plans to hang eight villagers unless Mark gives himself up.
