The next day Rita gets a job in a department store; she and store owner Van fall in love. Rita sends back the $300 from her earnings. Van introduces her to his uncle Mark, who turns out to be the man Rita had robbed. Van orders her to leave. She goes home. Later, Mark meets her parents and learns Rita isn’t the bad person he'd feared she was. Mark contacts Van and tells him what he learned; Van and Rita may reunite, someday. |

Jerry pushes himself to try and find a job, but suffers a “complete breakdown” and is sent to a sanatorium. Tired of waiting for him to recover, Alice moves away and becomes lawyer David’s secretary. They become engaged and visit Alice’s parents. Jerry escapes from the hospital and confronts Alice, but collapses. David breaks up with Alice when he learns how “heartless” she was in her treatment of Jerry. Alice says she’ll wait for Jerry to recover and they will marry. |
