Regarding the Bob Feller feature: Original radio broadcast! World War 2 and the draft brought considerable changes to the 1940s baseball landscape, but with the staunch support of no less than President Franklin Roosevelt himself, baseball wasn't going anywhere. For the first All-Star game after Pearl Harbor, MLB decided to add a special additional game. Whichever league won the All-Star Game on July 6th would then face a team comprised of military servicemen with MLB experience for a Service All-Star game. Many players had either volunteered for the war or been drafted, so Service All-Star manager Mickey Cochrane, a Navy lieutenant at the time, had plenty of talent to choose from. He settled on a roster of sixteen, 14 of whom had major league experience, and nominated Bob Feller (also in the Navy) as his starting pitcher. https:youtu.be/5hvpJCRTWyU?si=ipib_RFtpXQRQCui
