   By Johnny L. Wilson
Chamber of Chills is worth reading, but readers should be warned that the major stories are predictable. Despite the trope in the last panel of "The Old Hag on the Hill," the story was enjoyable. "The Avenging Spectre" (I think that was the title of the text story) didn't surprise me, but I thought it was extremely good for such a short story. The story about Mabu and death reminds me of lots of stories in the past, but I was imagining more of a cargo cult mechanism at the end rather than what happened. This title reminded me of Tales from the Crypt, particularly the narration of the hag of the first story and the (expected) twist of "The Ghost of Rue de Morte." Bob Powell's art in the first story seemed much closer to a Wally Wood style than the supporting feature in First Love Illustrated that he drew. For those offended that my rating isn't higher, just let me say that I felt like the characters were more like puppets manipulated for the plot than having the plot come out of the characters. Still, Chamber of Chills was definitely worth reading.
