NotesThis vol. contains the only 2 Mr.APOLLO stories that seem to have been scanned. Dynamic Thrills #7 has a Mr. Apollo cover but doesn't appear to have been scanned as yet. This hero is an obvious swipe of The Big Red Cheese. Stories from Swan Albums, mid '50's.

Lovely stuff! And I thought Mr Apollo was just the title of a Bonzo Dog song!

'Mr Apollo' wearing an almost exact replica of Fawcett Captain Marvel's costume fights three 'Bat men'? Swan really didn't have concerns about copyright did he?

Everybody knows he's the greatest benefactor of mankind. By the way, this compilation is mentioned and the cover is reproduced in the latest (#177) issue of Roy Thomas' fanzine "Alter Ego."

Just realized that the creators of 'The Authority' were British and created the duo, Apollo and the Midnighter, at first glance obviously a take on Supes and Bats. Hmmm! British creators and Apollo gets his powers from the sun. So, Superman to Captain marvel to Mr Apollo - to Superman ( who also now gets his powers from the sun] to Apollo? Oh,what a tangled web we weave! Oh and 'Jerry Gunn' [from Tommy Gun?] is a dead ringer for Clark Kent! Except for the pipe.

You are right, Swan didn't care. Mr. Apollo is one of many British superheroes/masked mystery men. There's no doubt that Midnighter and Apollo from Authority are deliberate alternates of Batman and Superman. Were the creators of Authority aware of Mr. Apollo? Or did they simply want a more violent JLA?
