I remember buying this off the newsstand...and laughing aloud at the way Sarge Steel defeated The Talon's brainwashing: "I just turned off my brain when you began all that jazz!"

SARGE STEEL is interesting. I guess it's not surprising that this title (and THE FIGHTIN' 5) had a longer run than any of Charlton's super-hero characters. It seems to start off as a Mickey Spillane wannabe hardboiled detective, but the Sarge can't escape the influence of his military career, so it's also a hybrid war comic -- which then begins evolving more of spy/secret agent influence. So it's a fusion of a crime/war/spy comic.
