What was the difference between a Big Little Book and a Better Little Book?
By bowers
Since Big Little Books had become a generic term for similar books by different publishers, Better Little Books may have been a format change to differentiate those published by Whitman. Later editions may have had fewer pages. Cheers, Bowers

"In mid-1938 the two major companies, Whitman and Saalfield, made major changes in their trademarks (Whitman's Big Little Books® became Better Little Books® and Saalfield's Little Big Books® became Jumbo Books®)."http://www.biglittlebooks.com/learning.html

The artwork's not bad, though the artist goes out of his way not to show McCoy's face. Anyone know who it is? Also, was the Tom Swift book listed in the ad pages in the BLB format? I'd be very curious to see that.

Using the link provided by Irek, I found the Tom Swift listed in the ads was released as a Better Little Book in 1939. Cheers, Bowers
