A big Hopalong Cassidy fan, I have always found the Bill Boyd Comics a bit puzzling. It apparently wasn't a rights issue, since Boyd owned the Hopalong Cassidy franchise, so I guess Fawcett just wanted even more Hopalong-related comics. The colour stills on the covers and the interior art mostly depict Boyd as he appeared in the last dozen of his Hopalong Cassidy movies, where he largely eschewed the black/blue costume, although his black horse "Midnight" in the comics seems to have been a deliberate decision to be the opposite of all-white Topper.
