Synopsis | High school student Nancy meets soldier Ray, 12 years her senior, and dates him over the objections of her friends and family. When he’s sent overseas, she stubbornly continues to write to him “to create excitement among [her] friends.” She is pleased when he sends her an engagement ring, although she has no intention of marrying him. Nancy falls in love with Tom. She is shocked when Ray and his parents show up with plans for the wedding. Tom tells Ray and Ray says “I wouldn’t want any part of [Nancy] on a silver platter!” Tom says Nancy is “too young, too immature” to plan for a future now. |

Linda suspects Joel and Margot are becoming romantically involved and she undermines Margot's treatment, causing a relapse. Joel says he can’t marry Linda while Margot is still ill: his younger brother was her late boyfriend and he is determined to cure her. Linda tries to undo the harm she’s done, but Joel overhears and says “What I felt for you is dead!” Linda will devote her life to helping others as atonement for her selfish actions. |
