Another significant one. T.A. Tad Dorgan was a significant cartoonist who also created comic strips, first, 'Jonnny wise' and later ' Silk Hat Harry's Divorce Suit.' He did regular sports cartoon strips. This was his first book. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tad_Dorgan He is also credited with creating many slang terms, some of which are still used today. He also claimed to have invented the term, 'Hot Dog'. ttps://whatscookingamerica.net/History/HotDog/HDHistory.htm His argument for how he thought up the term makes sense, but its more likely he popularized it rather than made it up. Once again thank you Lyons. Invaluable. Crazy Book tho. Makes me wonder if he and Herriman were pals. Basically a verbal standup routine. This guy was a very quick thinker. 'Quick Watson, the Needle!' You might find me using that a bit in my posts!

Some funny stuff here, but you'd never know that Tad was an accomplished cartoonist if this were the only book of his work you'd seen.

This is a curious collection. Mostly text jokes, probably old at the time, with very limited comic content. An interesting look at what passed for a "comic strip" back in the early days of the format. I wouldn't recommend it to just anyone, but if you're interested in early "comic strips" it's worth a look.

I have several Cupples and Leon books in my collection, as I love the comic strip inking styles of the 1910s-1930s. But, I don't care all that much about having access to this one, as it only has a few pages with that style of cartoons. The rest of the book is filled with corny text jokes (which were probably already 50 years old when this book was published), and simple stick figure cartoons with accompanying text jokes, which are also unfunny. However, I beg to differ with Crash's statement that having read only this book by Dorgan, one couldn't tell that he was a talented artist and cartoonist. Just looking at the inking on his dapper Dogs tells me otherwise. I'm rather surprised that that esteemed publisher took on this book, but I'm guessing that they had already published a few of his other books, filled with standard cartoon illustrations.
